Mateo Pierce-Mosquera

Legislative and Public Affairs Associate

Mateo Pierce-Mosquera manages Government Relations for the United States Hispanic Business Council. In his role, Mateo establishes and maintains positive relationships with government officials and legislators, and advocates for policies that support the advancement of Hispanic-owned businesses.

After arriving in Washington, D.C., Mateo became a Policy and Legislation Fellow at the League of United Latin American Citizens, where he monitored and analyzed select federal legislation on matters affecting Latino Americans. Subsequently, he completed two legislative internships in the United States House of Representatives with Congressman Henry Cuellar (D-TX) and then with Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL).

Prior to moving to Washington, D.C., Mateo was the Field Director for the Aditi Bussells for Columbia City Council At-Large campaign, which resulted in the election of the first Asian American to local office in South Carolina. Simultaneously, he worked as a Research Assistant with the South Carolina Commission for Minority Affairs, where he contributed to the socioeconomic analysis of the state's minority communities, assisted in conducting outreach to Latino students in higher education, and tracked state legislative efforts of interest to the Commission.

During his undergraduate career at the University of South Carolina, Mateo served in the Student Senate--including in the capacity of Chairman of the Inclusion and Equity Committee--as well as in the Religious Affairs Committee, where he oversaw an effort to expand multi-faith spaces on campus. He also served as Chapter President for Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity, Inc., the oldest Latino fraternity, and was involved with the Multicultural Greek Council and the Latin American Student Organization.

As a Colombian American born and raised in the Chicagoland area, Mateo is passionate about advocating for policies that further the social, political, and economic development of the Hispanic and Latino community.

Mateo presently resides in Washington, D.C. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Global Studies in which he graduated Cum Laude from the University of South Carolina. Mateo also holds a Master of Professional Studies in Legislative Affairs from George Washington University. He can often be found in public walking his beloved McNab Shepherd, Mari.
