Letter to POTUS - Call For Collaboration In Border Crisis

President Joseph Biden

The White House

1600 Pennsylvania Ave, NW

Washington, DC 20500

Mr. President,

On behalf of the United States Hispanic Business Council (USHBC) and the coalition of leaders undersigned below, we were encouraged by your most recent efforts to address the crisis on our southern border. However, we believe that there is much more to be done and we stand ready to aid your administration in solving this issue that has long plagued our nation.

Collaboration to identify immediate and long-term solutions is critical for our southern border communities, the industries impacted by supply chain and employment disruptions, and all Americans who feel the daily economic and social services strains. Collectively, we believe that immigration reform is an economic imperative for the continued wellbeing of our nation and economy. Additionally, we believe the business community has a role to play in fostering a solution-oriented approach.

Historically, America has called upon the business community to help during major crises. During WW2, we called upon auto and other manufactures; with the Joint Cyber Defense Collaborative, we called upon American tech giants; and during COVID we called upon the medical and pharmaceutical industries. This crisis demands the same approach.

This coalition of concerned, bipartisan business leaders is committed to supporting our country with the following objectives:

  • Aid efforts in creating actionable, sustainable solutions that consider humanitarian and business needs.

  • Assist in development of a coalition across impacted industries to craft a workforce initiative that expedites employment authorization to fill needed jobs in the United States.

  • Be a conduit to the affected communities, businesses and other entities along the southern border

  • Act as emissaries to Latin and Central America to prevent migration by helping enrich their economic and societal environments.

America’s cornerstone industries, including agriculture, transportation, construction, hospitality and infrastructure - rely on the contributions of immigrants and a functional foreign worker system. Collaborating to create a unique network of solutions is imperative to the future of these industries.

The involvement of our nation's business leaders and impacted organizations is vital for fostering bipartisanship and transparency in how our country fixes both the crisis at the southern border and immigration.

We strongly encourage you and your administration to include the USHBC and the undersigned leadership. Together we can work to craft border and public policy that more positively impacts the lives of migrants and all Americans.

Sincerely,
